The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat’s revelations that India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) has established a cell in 2015 aimed at sabotaging China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects in Pakistan is cause for serious concern for Pakistan whose progress and development is largely dependent upon the more than 50-billion dollar project.
Addressing a seminar in Islamabad on Tuesday, Gen Hayat revealed that “RAW established a new cell with a special allocation of over $500 million in 2015 to sabotage CPEC projects [in Pakistan].”
He went on to say that India’s indirect meddling in Pakistan is demonstrated in sponsoring Tehreek-i-Taliban-Pakistan, Baloch and other sub-nationalist outfits and many other terrorist groups.
The general also revealed that India had set up a Balochistan operational cell under RAW to devise a radical force for sabotage and terrorist activities in the province, adding that the arrest of Kulbushan Jadhav from Balochistan had been the “proverbial smoking gun” in the matter.
There’s no doubt that India has been involved in terrorist activities in Balochistan for a couple of years, with the aim of creating instability in the country. It’s also an established fact that India continues to engage Pakistan through an asymmetric strategy and ploys, and is even trying to incorporate conventional methods, such as surgical strikes into the realm of sub-conventional war.
Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat’s startling revelations should stir our security establishment to take action against India’s shenanigans in Pakistan, particularly its nefarious objective to sabotage CPEC.
At no cost can Pakistan allow India to continue to conspire against Pakistan with impunity, putting its territorial integrity and sovereignty at stake. It’s time Pakistan responded in kind and taught India a lesson.
