The entertainment-starved Pakistanis, who have had a fair share of depressing breaking news and noisy talk shows, were pleasantly surprised to watch a fun-filled political satire that ignited their dead sense of humor, impelling them to laugh out loud.
Titled ‘Lagti Hai To Lagay’, the show, aired on Bol News, was a treat to watch. The presenter Murtaza Chaudhri enlivened the audience with the political drama that’s been played out by the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P) for quite some time. Statements, counter-statements of the leaders of both sides, interspersed with sarcastic commentary in the host’s signature style, were also shown with great finesse.
As if the sidesplitting political satire were not enough, the audience was also regaled with yet another fantastic skit, Think Tank, whose protagonist, Abid Shaka, compelled one to roll in one’s seats with his ‘expert’ opinion on virtually every topic ranging from science to politics to world affairs. Mustafa Chaudhri stole the show with his deadpan one-liners and his hilarious interview with Abid Shaka.
Immediately after its airing, the show received an overwhelming response from people all over the country who sought a break from the usual rowdy talk shows. Those who think that they are inevitable for a certain channel should take a cue from the breakneck popularity of just one show of ‘Lagti Hai To Lagay’.
As they say, the show must go on. And what a great way to begin a new show that hooked the fun-starved people to their seats for one straight hour. Here’s wishing the team best of luck for the next shows. It’s hoped the quality of the show will remain the same and that mediocrity will not be allowed to creep in.
