Sean Penn and Leila George, who married over two years ago, have completed their divorce, according to Us Weekly.
The divorce order was granted on Friday, April 22nd, according to court records seen by Us.
Us earlier reported that the 30-year-old Australian filed for divorce from the 61-year-old Gaslit star in October 2021, after only one year of marriage.
Penn told Hollywood Authentic magazine earlier this month, “There’s a lady I’m so in love with, Leila George, who I barely see on a day-to-day basis now, because I f–ked up the marriage,” citing his role in the couple’s demise. “We were formally married for one year, but I was a really irresponsible man for five years.” I wasn’t a f–king cheater or anything like that, but I allowed myself to believe that my place in so many other things was so important, including my place in being totally depressed and driven to alcohol and Ambien at 11 a.m., by watching the news, by watching the [President] Trump era, by watching it and just watching it.
“And as it turns out — and this will shock you — [a] beautiful, incredibly kind, imaginative, talented young woman who [gets] married to a man quite senior to them in years, they don’t love it when they wake up from their peaceful night’s sleep and their new husband is on the couch, having been up since 4, watching all of the crap that’s going on in the world and has decided that 10:30 a.m. is a good time to neck a double vodka tonic I’m going to pass asleep for a few hours so I can get away from it all.’ Women, as mentioned, don’t care for it.”
The California native said he didn’t know what would “happen with us,” but called the Mortal Engines actress his “best friend” and the “most important and inspirational” person in his life.
After four years of dating, Penn and the actress secretly married in July 2020. (They were linked for the first time in October 2016.)
“We had a COVID wedding,” says the bride. “It was a county commissioner on Zoom, and we were at the house with my two children and her brother, and we did it that way,” the Mystic River actress disclosed during an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers in August 2020, flashing his wedding band.
Between 2013 and 2015, the Milk star dated Charlize Theron before starting his relationship with George. From 1985 to 1989, he was married to Madonna, and from 1996 to 2010, he was married to Robin Wright. Penn and Wright, 56, have a son named Hopper and a daughter named Dylan.
