On April 21, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced that internet speeds in the country will be sluggish.
The PTA stated in a statement that a power reconfiguration operation on a segment of international undersea cable, SMW4, will take place from 2 to 7 a.m. as the cause for the poor speed.
The PTA stated that additional steps to providing uninterrupted internet services to consumers will be taken to satisfy capacity needs, despite the fact that certain internet users may experience speed reductions.
The telecommunications regulator went on to say that it will endeavour to get the internet up and running as soon as possible.
In February, a cable severed in an undersea cable system about 400 kilometres off the coast of Pakistan caused internet outages throughout the country.
