IPL 2022: CSK suffers another setback despite Rayudu’s tremendous knock

WANKHEDE: Ambati Rayudu gave it his best for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but they were defeated by just 11 runs in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

CSK were poised to chase 188 runs after Shikhar Dhawan’s 88-run not-out knock. In the 38th match of the cash-rich competition, Punjab Kings were assisted to reach 187-4 in 20 overs.

At one point, it appeared that CSK would easily hunt down the target, but Kagiso Rabada gave Punjab the breakthrough, shattering the men in yellow’s aspirations.

Rayudu hit seven boundaries and six maximums in his 78-run innings from 39 balls. Former CSK skipper MS Dhoni (12) was unable to complete the game as they were 176 for six after being handed overs.

While chasing, opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad kept things tight at one end, but wickets at the other end kept Punjab’s momentum going.

For Punjab, Kagiso Rabada and Rishi Dhawan each took two wickets.

Earlier, man-of-the-match Dhawan hammered an unbeaten 88 runs to help Punjab to a respectable total. He hit nine boundaries and two sixes in his innings. Bhanuka Rajapaksa stood by him and together they scored 110 runs. Rajapaksa made 42 runs, including two boundaries and sixes.
