Nawaz Sharif has received his passport and is now free to travel

Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N leader and former prime minister, has been awarded a new passport by the Pakistani government, allowing him to travel to Pakistan.

Nawaz’s passport was issued in Islamabad on April 23, 2022, at 2:49 p.m., according to official records reviewed by Geo News (PST). According to the documentation, the passport’s nature is “ordinary,” and it was issued in the “urgent” category.

The new passport of the former prime minister is valid for ten years, until April 2032. According to data given by a reliable source, the passport’s status is “active.”

Nawaz Sharif’s appointment for fingerprints at the Pakistan High Commission in London was planned for April 23, according to a reliable source, however it was cancelled the previous time.

Last Monday, Rana Sanaullah, the newly sworn-in Minister of Interior, declared that a diplomatic passport was Nawaz Sharif’s entitlement and that it would be provided to him.

“It is sad that a guy who has served as Prime Minister three times is being stripped of his national citizenship,” remarked the interior minister.

Nawaz’s passport, on the other hand, is not diplomatic but “regular.”

A lawsuit contesting Nawaz’s probable issue of a diplomatic passport was denied by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday. The petition was rejected by the court because it was “based on untrustworthy material and so frivolous.”

On the directions of his brother, newly elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Advocate Naeem Haider Panjutha filed a case at the IHC based on media claims that Nawaz was being awarded a diplomatic passport.

The federal government authorised the Ministry of Interior to renew the passports of Ishaq Dar, the former prime minister and finance minister, two weeks ago.

Nawaz Sharif’s passport had expired in February of last year, and Imran Khan’s administration had refused to renew it, but then-interior minister Sheikh Rasheed had suggested that if the PML-N chief wanted to return, he might be given a special certificate.

In October 2019, the PML-N supremo was given an eight-week medical bail, and a month later, he was permitted to fly overseas for treatment.
