When Amber Heard worked with James Franco during their relationship, she claims Johnny Depp’s animosity for him led to clashes.
Heard, 36, initially appeared in the 2008 comedy Pineapple Express opposite Franco. Heard then reunited with Franco in the 2015 crime movie The Adderall Diaries, while still engaged to Depp, 58. In May 2014, she shot the latter film in New York while Depp was filming Black Mass in Boston. Heard detailed the “nightmare” of arguments she and Depp had over her renowned costar during her second day of evidence.
“Depp was furious with me for taking the job with James Franco,” she added. He despised James Franco and was already accusing me of having an affair with him.
“In many arguments, he had already been unhappy with me and accused me of not telling him about scenes that I had, whether I had a kissing scene,” Heard stated. “If I wasn’t explicit about what I was going to do in a romantic scenario, I was accused of withholding information and keeping it from him. So, while I didn’t want to fight or argue, I had to tread carefully around how to notify him when I had a scenario like that.”
When Heard told Depp about her scenes with Franco over the phone, he became outraged and “screamed” at her, almost as if “I had told him I had had an affair; he was that angry at me,” she added. Heard said she was “nervous” about seeing Depp next since she planned to fly to Boston with him to celebrate his daughter Lily-birthday Rose’s in Los Angeles. “I just knew something was amiss in every cell of my body” when Depp boarded the private plane.
“I could see that this was going to be a lose-lose situation,” she stated.
Heard claimed she attempted not to “engage” when he questioned her about filming a love moment with Franco, including whether he “slipped a tongue” during the kissing. Depp was a well-known actor “”About how I loved it, how I responded,” she continued, “they were saying extremely horrible things about my body.” Then he started taunting me directly. ‘I know you liked it,’ he said, referring to me as a ‘go-getter.'”
She claimed he called her a “slut” and other derogatory terms in front of the plane’s security and attendants, which “embarrassed” her. Heard stood up “so slowly” to get out of the talk and not “aggravate” him any further, she claimed, and he began throwing objects at her, including a pair of scissors.
Heard remarked When she stopped responding to him, Depp slapped her across the face. “It was the first time something like that had happened in front of anyone,” she explained. She testified that she felt his boot on her back when he kicked her, leading her to fall to the floor when she tried to walk away and change seats again.
“There was silence. Nobody intervened “through tears, she said “On that plane, you could hear a pin drop. The anxiety was palpable. But no one took action…. He could kick me to the ground in front of others because I was so embarrassed.
Depp, who has testified under oath that he has never struck Heard or any other woman, mentioned the alleged 2014 Boston-to-L.A. flight incident earlier in the trial. He acknowledged that they had “fought the night before,” and that Heard was “actively looking” for a fight with him.
He stated that he was “not feeling any discomfort” when he boarded the plane and was using opiates at the time, disputing that he was inebriated. “I was sitting on the plane, scribbling in my notepad, knowing she was ready for a fight. He explained that she would “verbally heckle, bother, accuse, probe, prod physically, psychologically, and emotionally” until he decided to “hide.” “He locked himself in the airport restroom.
Depp testified during cross-examination that they had clashed about Franco and that he accused Heard of having an affair with the actor.
Heard and Depp met while filming The Rum Diary in 2011 and married in 2015. Heard filed for a domestic violence restraining order against him in May 2016, alleging him of beating her. Depp rejected the allegations, and the former couple reached an out-of-court settlement in August 2016.
Depp is suing Heard for defamation over an op-ed she published for The Washington Post in 2018 on surviving domestic violence, despite the fact that she never mentioned Depp by name. The $50 million lawsuit was first filed in March 2019 by the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.
Depp lost his widely publicised U.K. libel action against British newspaper The Sun for labelling him a “wife-beater” in November 2020. The outlet’s accusations were found to be “basically truthful” by the court, and Heard testified to back up the claims. His attempt to overturn the decision was rejected in March 2021.
