
On an honorary basis, Muhammad Abubakar Umer has been designated as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s digital media focal point.
As a Chevening Scholar in 2019-2020, Abubakar earned a master’s degree in Communications Governance from the London School of Economics. Since then, he has been the director of strategic communications for the Institute for Art and Culture.
Abubakar also spent five years in Punjab, where he established the first digital media branch, the third arm of the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR), to fulfil modern-day public communication needs. Under the then-CM Shehbaz Sharif, DMW in Punjab gave real-time feedback from the public, which helped deliver services efficiently and enhance governance in Punjab.
Abubakar comes from Shakargarh and received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering as a NOP scholar from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). He has worked in both the private and public sectors in the field of information technology (IT).
“This position will work as a bridge between the administration and the people and foster honest debate and discussion,” the newly designated focal person said on Twitter.
