The Afro-Asian Cup, which is expected to be held in mid-2023 with the purpose of boosting cricketing relations between Pakistan and India, is slated to feature star cricketers from both nations.
Because they only play one other in mega-events, political conflicts between neighbouring countries have had a big impact on cricket. The last bilateral series between Pakistan and India was in 2012-13.
Furthermore, no Pakistani cricketer has played in the Indian Premier League since 2008, and no Indian cricketer has ever played in the Pakistan Super League.
It’s worth noting that in the 2005 and 2007 Afro-Asia Cups, players from both countries were part of the same team.
Shoaib Akhtar and Shahid Afridi of Pakistan played alongside India’s Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid in the mid-2000s, while the African XI included players from South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.
The Afro-Asian Cup, as well as other initiatives, will be discussed at the ICC’s forthcoming Annual General Meeting.
Rizwan of Pakistan and Pujara of India both played for Sussex in the County Championship 2022 earlier this year, where the two prodigious batsmen combined for 154 runs against Durham.
