The 6th generation Honda CR-V has been released by Honda North America. The full unveiling is coming soon, and sales in North America will begin later this year.
Until a few generations ago, the Honda CR-V was categorised as a small crossover, but it has evolved through time and is now classified as a C-segment sports utility vehicle, or “C-SUV.” CR-V stands for Compact Recreational Vehicle [it’s no longer compact], and the first iteration was introduced in 1995.
Honda CR-V in the US
The Honda CR-V is a very important model for Honda, especially in the United States, as evidenced by the fact that since its introduction in 1997, Honda has sold over 5 million CR-Vs in the US alone, with an average of 300,000 units or more per year since the 4th generation, and the 5th generation CR-V outsold the best-selling Civic in North America.
Tucson, Sportage, Rav4, Ford Escape, Nissan Rogue, VW Tiguan, and a lengthy list of other vehicles compete in this segment. CR-V is statistically the runner-up in the US and globally, with Rav4 taking the lead.
Honda CR-V Upgrades
The 6th generation CR-V will share its DNA with the 11th generation Civic, which is effectively a modified prior generation modular platform, just like the current 5th generation CR-V in production, which shares its platform with the 10th generation Civic.
According to the teaser, the front end will be completely redesigned, with more horizontal lines, a larger grille, and larger headlamps. The lengthened tail lights from the first generation are still present in this current iteration, so it may appear to be a Volvo from the rear. Overall, we may anticipate a completely new [more evolutionary] look and a completely new, polished, and enhanced inside.
A Hybrid variation is revealed in the teaser. This will be a more advanced and newer hybrid technology, according to Honda. We may expect it to be similar to what the 11th generation Civic has to offer.
Honda Atlas squandered an opportunity with the CR-V? I previously expressed a detailed opinion on the subject. Honda Atlas offers the CR-V as a CBU, with a sticker price of over Rs. 13 million according to earlier information.
