As he testified in his defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife at the Fairfax County Circuit Courthouse in Fairfax, Virginia, on Tuesday, Johnny Depp called Amber Heard’s allegations of domestic violence and sexual assault “heinous and unsettling” (April 19, 2022).
The Hollywood star said that he and his ex-wife fought during their marriage, but that he “never” beat her, and that “nor have I ever struck any woman in my life.”
Depp told the court that his ex-wife Amber Heard’s claims of domestic violence and sexual assault are “heinous and scary,” and that he is “obsessed” with discovering the truth.
On the fifth day of the libel trial, the Pirates of the Caribbean star testified for the first time, declaring, “My purpose is the truth.”
Johnny Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over an op-ed she penned in the Washington Post in 2018 about her experience with domestic abuse. Heard claimed that the actor damaged her face after hurling a phone at her in their Los Angeles home, and the essay was published two years later. Depp rejected the accusation and was cleared of any wrongdoing.
