During the current trial between the Pirates of the Caribbean star and ex-Amber Heard, Johnny Depp’s erstwhile close pal Bruce Witkin was the first to take the stand and testify against him on Thursday.
Witkin testified that he had been good friends with Depp from 1982 to 2018, but that he ‘wasn’t sure’ why their friendship ended after Depp texted him saying he had’stabbed him in the back.’
Witkin also stated in his deposition that Depp’s problems are unrelated to Heard, telling the court: “In my experience, it’s deep-rooted difficulties he’s dealing with.” In my judgement, it had nothing to do with Amber.”
He also discussed Depp’s drug addiction, claiming that he recommended the former Hollywood A-lister to “get sober and go to counselling.”
Witkin also testified in court that Depp used cocaine in 2014 and again in 2016, saying, “I was extremely startled because Johnny loathed it when we were youngsters.” But then, when I asked, “Why are you doing this?” he kept it hidden from me for a long time.”
