Emmerdale’s first transgender character, Ash, debuted four years ago.
Moira Barton’s child Matty, who previously starred on the show as Hannah, is his character.
Cain mistaken him for an intruder when he returned to Butler’s Farm and punched him.
Moira recognised him right away, but she couldn’t accept his new look and chastised him for skipping his sister Holly’s burial.
Ash previously appeared in the film Boy Meets Girl as Alex.
He also played Andrew in Mum, and in 2017, he played Jack in the Theatre Royal Stratford East production of Summer in London.
About his new Emmerdale job, Ash said: “I’m really looking forward to being a part of the Emmerdale family.
“It’s been an incredible journey from nervous auditions to daily work with the team.
“Matty is a groundbreaking character to play, and I’m excited to see where he goes from here.”
