
According to Bloomberg, DG Khan Cement Company (DGKC) Limited, one of Pakistan’s largest cement makers, would ship cement to the United States for the first time in the country’s history.
According to Bloomberg, DGKC’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Inayat Ullah Niazi, is preparing to send 50,000 tonnes of cement to the United States. At the moment, a ship destined for Houston is loading cement at a Karachi port.
Cement shipments to the United States will significantly boost Pakistan’s export receipts at a time when the country is desperately seeking new commercial opportunities. It’s worth noting that, as of May 2022, cement sales had dropped 15.85 percent to 3.32 million tonnes, compared to 3.94 million tonnes the previous year.
Export dispatches dropped by 76.97 percent from 746,550 tonnes in May 2021 to 171,915 tonnes in May 2022, according to data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA).
Total cement dispatches (domestic and export) totaled 47.62 million tonnes in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year (July-May), down 8.8% from 52.22 million tonnes in the same time previous year.
