Despite recent price hikes, car sales in Pakistan were strong in May 2022.
Last month, sales at Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) and Honda Atlas Cars Limited (HACL) increased somewhat, while sales at Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) decreased slightly. Hyundai Nishat Motor Private Limited (HNMPL) saw a large increase in sales, but not enough to crack the top five best-selling automobiles in a single month.
Speaking of which, here are five best-selling cars for May 2022:
#5: Toyota Yaris
In recent months, demand for Toyota Yaris has decreased dramatically. This is owing to the arrival on the market of the new Suzuki Swift, Honda City, and Changan Alsvin.
Last month, Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) sold 1,834 Yaris, breaking into the top five sellers’ list for this month. At least this month, the Toyota Yaris has triumphed over the Suzuki Swift and Honda City.
#4: Honda Civic
Honda Civic’s popularity in Pakistan continues to grow, as seen by its stratospheric leap to the top five best-selling automobiles in the country. Last month, HACL sold 2,219 Civics, representing an 85 percent rise in sales from the previous month (MoM).
Despite a price tag of Rs. 5-6 million, HACL has sold more Civics than the far more economical City, Toyota Yaris, and Suzuki Swift, all of which are at least Rs. 2 million less expensive. That is an excellent achievement for HACL.
#3: Suzuki Wagon R
#2: Toyota Corolla
The Toyota Corolla retains its title of “best-selling sedan” in Pakistan, outselling all other sedans for the fifth year in a row in 2022. In May 2022, Toyota IMC sold 2,429 Corollas, making it the month’s second best-selling car overall.
The Corolla’s excellent sales are attributed to its lineup’s wide range of prices and variants. Corolla competes with the top-of-the-line Honda City, as well as sedans in its own class, such as the Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra.
#1: Suzuki Alto
Suzuki Alto continues to remain Pakistan’s best-selling automobile, with a significant market share. PSMC sold 5,461 units of the Alto in May 2022, making it the best-selling car in Pakistan for the fifth month in a row.
The popularity of the Suzuki Alto among ride-hailing services, young professionals, students, and low-income families contributes to its high sales. Its main selling factors are its lower price and excellent fuel economy.
