Maryam Nawaz says DG ISPR’s statement not political its a fact

Maryam Nawaz, Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), said on Thursday that the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general’s remark was not political, but based on facts.

The PML-N representative made the remarks in reaction to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders’ criticism of DG ISPR Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar’s admission that no evidence of a ‘foreign conspiracy’ was found, which PTI chief Imran Khan says led to his dismissal.

“Imran Khan was playing with Pakistan for four years, then when the economy was wrecked, he mortgaged it to the IMF [International Monetary Fund],” Maryam Nawaz said in an interview with the media in Islamabad.

She went on to say that the outgoing government had created a “economic minefield” for their successor government, something that the PTI’s previous interior minister admitted to.

The PML-N vice president defended the fuel price hike and additional levies included in the 2018 budget, claiming that Shehbaz Sharif’s government did not willingly impose such conditions.

Maryam blamed the previous government for inflation, claiming that the PTI had agreed with the IMF to charge taxes and raise the prices of petroleum products. She went on to say that the price of petrol should have been Rs300 per litre today if the deal had been followed.

The PML-N leader added that demands for chaos, sedition, and violence against the state will be dealt with harshly by the government, referring to Imran Khan’s calls to protest.

“Imran Khan is being dogged by one corruption issue after another; he is stunned by the nation’s rejection,” she continued.

The PML-N leader further accused the former premier of “hiding” in Peshawar because he was afraid of Rana Sanaullah, the interior minister.

Former President Pervez Musharraf’s return

In response to Nawaz Sharif’s remarks about former President Pervez Musharraf’s return to Pakistan, the PML-N leader remarked that the party supremo did not believe in personal revenge and that his statements were made for humanitarian reasons.

On the subject of elections, Maryam Nawaz stated that difficult decisions were required for the country’s stability, and that the general election will be held on time.
