In a highly sensational and much-hyped show Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga, Aamir Liaquat broke people’s curiosity by highlighting the misdeeds of Shahzaib Khanzada—a journalist who has gone to every length to dent the state’s key institutions, the military and the judiciary.
While a common Pakistani may have only heard about the wrongdoings of journalists through the grapevine, Mr Liaquat well and truly laid bare everything that ails the respectable and highly responsible field of journalism.
While Geo and The News have had an in-built bias against the army, their hatred for the judiciary also came to light following the ouster of Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers scandal. Not only has the media group, both print and electronic, shown its leaning towards the PML-N right from the outset, its journalists have also been in the spotlight with regard to their biased, unfounded reporting against the judiciary and the military.
However, the way Shahzaib Khanzada was ruthlessly exposed by Aamir Liaquat was spectacular. A journalist whose responsibility was to unmask the corrupt and venal of the country came under fire for his established misdemeanors, seriously undermining his credibility in the eyes of his viewers.
The viewers were also shown the derogatory remarks Shahzaib and his anti-army guests gave off camera about the DG-ISPR General Asif Ghafoor’s statements and pressers. One was shocked to see the level of hatred and ridicule the good host harbored about an army whose soldiers and officers have rendered tremendous sacrifices for the motherland.
One does not know whether the show was the result of a deep-rooted tussle between the two media giants, but it’s an established fact that Geo and The News have long embarked on a mission to malign Pakistan Army and the judiciary for their ulterior motives.
Now that Aamiar Liaquat has exposed the shenanigans of Geo’s famous broadcaster, the judiciary and the powers that be should take action against the latter—and the sooner it happens, the better.
