The classic appearance, small size, and superb off-road performance of the Suzuki Jimny have a strong appeal among enthusiasts.
Mitsubishi saw this as an opportunity and chose to bring the Mini-Pajero back. Mitsubishi is currently developing the Kei-SUV and aims to launch it in 2024, according to Best Car Web, a reputable Japanese news outlet.
The SUV will be twinned with the Nissan Kix, a Kei-SUV from the 1990s. Both SUVs will use the same 660cc 3-cylinder petrol engine seen in the Mitsubishi EK Wagon and Nissan Dayz. To compete with the Suzuki Jimny, the 4WD versions of both SUVs will almost certainly include a turbo and an off-road drivetrain.
It is unknown whether the Mini Pajero will be sold outside of Japan. Given the Suzuki Jimny’s international success, Mitsubishi is likely to consider launching the Mini-Pajero in regions where the Jimny is already well-known.
