Dr. Amir Liaquat, a member of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-National Insaf’s Assembly, died on June 9, 2022.
Candidates for the NA-245 by-election will be able to acquire nomination papers on June 20, according to a statement released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Nomination forms will be accepted from June 22 to 24, according to the announcement.
On June 25, the preliminary list of applicants will be issued, and the papers will be reviewed by June 27, with the final list of candidates being released on July 5.
Candidates who have submitted nomination papers will be able to withdraw on July 6, according to the ECP statement, while election symbols will be assigned on July 7.
It should be noted that in the 2018 general elections, Amir Liaquat Hussain defeated MQM’s Dr. Farooq Sattar in NA-245 and was elected to the National Assembly on a PTI ticket.
PTI Sindh President Ali Zaidi remarked in a press conference in Karachi that citizens have rejected all political parties, including the MQM. While MQM Federal Minister Aminul Haq had also endorsed EVM, the introduction of electronic voting machines (EVM) would not have caused the same issue as yesterday.
