With rumors of BOL network being taken over by ARY network; with Nadia Khan resuming her popular morning show on Geo TV to the blasphemy hullabaloo associated with Shahista Wahidi, the Pakistani media scene has been the center of some very interesting developments this year.
With multiple TV channels vying to stay on top by coming up with a slew of talk shows, there’s a need to evaluate the quality of their programs—and what better way to do so than the television rating points, commonly known as TRPs!
Kantar (Media Logic) suggests that ARY Digital received a viewership of 0.6, followed by Urdu 1 and HUM TV respectively. TRPs of GEO Entertainment, GEO Kahani and SAMAA TV, in contrast, secured a mark of 0.4.
We will now take a look at Pakistan’s Top 10 Pakistani TV channels based on their TRPs for September 2015, as reported by Kantar Media (Media Logic).
ARY Digital, thanks to its unique content, tops the rating charts for September 2015. Good Morning Pakistan anchored by Nida Yasir and Jeeto Pakistan hosted by Fahad Mustafa remained the most popular shows of the channel.
Also, the vibrant character of Faysal Quraishi in Rung Laaga, the appealing storyline of Aitraaz, and the recently showcased Big Boss 9 were another jewels in the channel crown.
Kantar Media also says, statistically, that Urdu 1 boasts a massive rating of 0.5. And the credit for this largely goes to its latest Turkish drama “Kala Paisa Pyaar”.
The channel also owes its success to its foreign content, such as Indian soaps like Ye Hai Mohabbatein, Suhani Si Ek Ladki, Saath Nibahna Saathiya, Yeh Rishta Kia Kehlata Hai and Sumit Sambhal Lega as well as local soaps like Malaika and Nazo.
HUM TV ruled the roost thanks to its highly popular morning show Jaago Pakistani Jaago, hosted by Sanam Jung. Drama serials such as Sangat, Kaisay Tum Se Kahoon, Dayar-e-Dil and Tumahary Siwa also went down well with the masses, adding to the popularity of the channel.
