Muzaffarabad – The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has secured a thumping victory in Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) elections as they bagged 33 seats out of 42. They were followed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muslim conference (MC) who took 3 seats each, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) 2 seats and Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party (JKPP) manages to secure only 1 seat. The AJK election results were formally announced on Friday. One independent candidate also managed to win a seat according to AJK election commission.
PTI chairman Imran Khan congratulated PML-N on his twitter account. He tweeted “Even though traditionally party in power in Islamabad tends to win AJK elections, I would still like to congratulate PMLN for its AJK win” This was unexpected as Imran Khan has always alleged PML-N of rigging charges.
He also congratulated PTI’s winning candidates and to all those who showed a great contest in elections.
PML-N grabbed 22 out of 29 seats located in Kashmir and 9 from constituencies located in different parts of Pakistan. MC won all three seats from AJK, PPP clinched 2 from AJK and 1 from Pakistan while PTI won both of their seats from constituencies located in Pakistan.
PML-N swept the capital of AJK by winning all the seats in the division. PML-N’s secretary general Shah Ghulam Qadir secured a thumping victory with the highest lead of 23000 votes in Neelum district.
PML-N clinched 8 seats from Mirpur district out of 12
PPP was in power in AJK has refused to accept the election results saying PML-N has done scientific and technical rigging in AJK elections.
Both PPP and PTI seem to be wiped out at the hands of PML-N.
This show of confidence over PML-N regime may affect Imran Khan’s movement where he seeks to overthrow the government and demands new elections.
