Major General Babar Iftikhar, the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said on Tuesday that both meetings of the National Security Committee were told explicitly that there is no proof of foreign conspiracy against the previous government.
On Tuesday, he told a private news programme that everyone has the right to freedom of expression, but that no one should distort the truth or tell lies. He stated that Pakistan and China have strong strategic and defence connections, and that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor’s security has not been compromised.
The army’s spokesperson bemoaned the use of social media to spread propaganda against the army and its leadership. “[They were] advised that there was no conspiracy or proof of any type [against the government at the time], nothing like that.” The DG ISPR stated, “Participants were advised in detail that there was no proof of any plot.”
He admitted that the army and its leaders were being attacked by “baseless rumours” and propaganda, which was terrible and should not have happened. Everyone has the right to an opinion, but no one has the right to “reject facts and criticise an institution and its personnel on the basis of lies,” he stated.
Major General Babar Iftikhar responded to rumours that former President General Pervez Musharraf’s health is deteriorating, saying that the military leadership believes the former army head should return to Pakistan.
“In such a situation, the institution and leadership’s position is that Pervez Musharraf should return,” DG ISPR remarked. During an interview with a private television channel, DG ISPR stated the family of president will make the final decision on his return to Pakistan. He is currently residing in the United Arab Emirates.
“We’ve reached out to his family.” We can make the necessary arrangements once his family responds,” the military’s spokesperson stated, praying for Musharraf’s quick recovery.
The Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s visit to China, according to the Pakistan Army’s spokesperson, was highly essential, and China has played a crucial role in improving Pakistan’s defence prowess.
Maj Gen Iftikhar stressed the importance of relations between Islamabad and Beijing as “strategic” and “critical” for regional peace.
By promptly establishing a FATF unit at GHQ to communicate with numerous ministries, departments, and agencies to produce a complete plan for each item of action given by FATF to Pakistan, the Pakistan Army foiled an Indian plot to place Pakistan on the FATF’s blacklist. Finally, the cell was able to have the strategy adopted by all stakeholders, he noted.
On the orders of Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the FATF cell was led for the first time by a serving Major General at the Military Operations Directorate, who held a series of meetings with over thirty ministries and all stakeholders before preparing an implementation report that would be presented by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, who would represent Pakistan at the FATF.
