PAK vs WI: Babar Azam shatters Hashim Amla’s record

MULTAN: Babar Azam, Pakistan’s all-format captain, set a new record on Friday when he broke former South African batsman Hashim Amla’s record of most runs in 86 ODI innings.

Babar became the greatest run-scorer in 86 ODI innings on Friday when he hit 77 runs in 93 balls against West Indies at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Babar has now scored 4441 runs for the Green Shirts in 86 innings, surpassing the old South African captain’s record.

Amla had previously set the record for most runs scored in 86 innings with 4434.

Babar had previously scored the most runs in 85 innings.

However, the 27-year-old came up 23 runs short of matching Sri Lankan batting legend Kumar Sangakkara as the only two men’s ODI batsmen to score hundreds in four successive innings.

In the previous innings against West Indies Babar surpassed former Indian captain Virat Kohli as the fastest to 1000 ODI runs as captain.
