Pakistan weather updates: Pre-Monsoon Rains to Start from tomorrow

Pre-monsoon rain and thunderstorms are forecast across the country starting Wednesday, June 15, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast in most of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) from June 15 to June 23, according to the latest PMD advisory.

From Thursday, June 16 to Tuesday, June 21, rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Islamabad and upper and central Punjab, while rain and thunderstorms are likely in South Punjab from Friday, June 17 to Monday, June 20.

On Thursday, June 16 and Friday, June 17, heavy rain is forecast in Islamabad and upper and central Punjab, perhaps causing urban floods in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

From Wednesday, June 15 through next Wednesday, rain and thunderstorms are forecast across most of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). From Friday, June 17 to Monday, June 20, rain and thunderstorms are forecast in most of Balochistan.

From Friday, June 17 to Sunday, June 19, hot and dry weather is forecast to dominate across most of Sindh, with just a small risk of showers and thunderstorms in Sukkur, Jacobabad, and Larkana.

In this regard, a PMD representative stated that the current hot temperatures will diminish with the upcoming monsoon spell. Crops, vegetables, and orchards will have better access to water.

In Islamabad, Punjab, KP, AJK, and GB, the expected rains may cause damage to susceptible infrastructure. In AJK, GB, and upper KP, landslides are likely, as well as flash flooding in eastern Balochistan.
