ISLAMABAD: On Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accepted the nomination of famous lawyer Ashtar Ausaf Ali as Pakistan’s Attorney General.
Following the resignation of the PTI government on April 9, Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan resigned, claiming he had endeavoured to serve the country to the best of his capacity and conscience.
It’s worth noting that throughout 2015-16, Ashtar Ausaf Ali worked as a special assistant to the prime minister (SAPM) on law and justice. During the reign of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he was the AGP.
He was Punjab’s Advocate General twice before, from 1998 to 1999 and 2012 to 2013. He was also the province’s Prosecutor General from 2011 to 2012, as well as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Human Rights Advisor in 1997.
