Only government personnel are eligible for these optional vacation days. If an employee is Muslim, they can only take one optional holiday, but non-Muslims can take three.
“The grant of this concession should not cause any work disruption.” When it comes to Muslim optional holidays, the number of people who are allowed to take them should be limited so that enough people are available to keep the job running well.
“The alternative holidays are denominational and may be granted at the discretion of the Head of Office as long as work is not affected.”
The announcement stated, “A Government Servant should not ordinarily be denied an Optional Holiday that is of religious significance because the rejection is likely to reduce the number of such holidays to which he or she is entitled.”
