KARACHI: The roof of a five-star hotel in Karachi collapsed late Thursday, killing one person and injuring three others.
Several other persons are believed to be trapped beneath the rubble when the roof collapsed, according to rescue sources.
Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation is close to the hotel (PIDC). Meanwhile, Raees Ahmed has been identified as the deceased person.
One dead body and three injured people were transported to Jinnah Hospital, according to a representative for the hospital, Dr. Ajmal Yousufzai.
“Those who were injured are being treated, and one person’s condition is critical,” he added.
The hotel administration stated that an old part of the hotel’s roof had collapsed, and that the hotel personnel promptly began rescue efforts.
“After the incident, precautionary steps were taken, and further investigations are underway.”
Meanwhile, the Karachi South senior superintendent of police (SSP) denied any involvement in terrorist activity.
“It appears that a false ceiling collapsed owing to water pipe leaking, but no proof of terrorism has been discovered,” he added.
