Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), declared on Wednesday that he would address the country tonight to “show them our way forward for a sovereign Pakistan.”
The former prime minister who was deposed thanked the country on his official Twitter account for “coming out yesterday evening in support of the” Supreme Court’s ruling, which he said protected the Constitution and the law.
I want to thank the nation for coming out spontaneously last evening in support of the SC decision upholding Constitution & the Law. Tonight I will address our people at 10:00pm giving them our way forward for a sovereign Pakistan.

The speech by Imran is slated for tonight at 10:00.
His announcement came after the Supreme Court overturned Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari’s decision on the election of Punjab chief minister, dealing a fatal blow to the newly formed Shehbaz Sharif-led ruling coalition and paving the way for the PTI’s choice Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to take the throne in the nation’s political centre.
After more than three hours of delay, a three-member bench consisting of Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, and Justice Munib Akhtar pronounced an extremely harsh judgement at the conclusion of a hearing that had gripped the nation for the previous four days.
“The governance of the province of Punjab in accordance with the Constitution has been subverted whereby the fundamental rights of the people have been seriously infringed,” said the top court in its 11-page short order.
“As a result, the ruling dated 22.07.2022 issued by Respondent No1, Deputy Speaker, the Punjab Assembly is set aside and declared to be void, without lawful authority and of no legal effect,” read the order.
By virtue of the order, PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz lost his status of the “trustee” chief minister.
