The Pakistan Cricket Board’s 2022–23 men’s domestic cricket season, which was announced today, was built towards streamlining cricket career paths and increasing playing opportunities for young players.
The 33-match, two-leg National T20 tournament, which takes place in Rawalpindi and Multan from August 30 to September 19, will kick off the senior cricket season. In parallel, Quetta will host the second XIs Cricket Associations Cup from September 2–15.
The PCB’s crowning achievement, the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, will be played from 27 September to 30 November, with 31 matches being split between Abbottabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Karachi. From September 27 to November 23, the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and the Cricket Associations Championship will be played in the same cities.
The 33-match Pakistan Cup 50-over event, which will be held in Karachi from 10 December to 3 January, will bring an end to the domestic cricket season 2022–23. The Cricket Associations Challenge will also be held in Karachi from 10–29 December.
Over 127 days, 187 matches are expected to be played (30 August to 3 January).
The following stand out about the PCB’s domestic cricket schedule for men in 2022–23:
- Six-team Cricket Associations Cup (T20 format) will now be played on a double-league basis. This means each side will get a minimum of 10 matches and 30 matches will be played. Previously, the event was held on a single league basis with 15 games.
- Six-team Cricket Associations Championship will now be a four-day non-first-class competition. Previously, it was a three-day tournament.
- Six-team Cricket Associations Championship will be played on a double-league basis. This means each side will get a minimum of 10 matches and 30 matches will be played. Previously, the event was held on a single league basis with 15 matches.
- Six-team Cricket Associations Challenge will be played on a double-league basis. This means each side will get a minimum of 10 matches and 30 matches will be played. Previously, the event was held on a single league basis with 15 matches.
The CCA U19 tournament (21 May–4 June), CA Divisional U19 tournament (10–17 June), CCA Senior Tournament (19 June–21 July), and National U19 Cup will be followed by the seniors’ competitions (28 June-8 July). The CA Divisional Senior Tournament will run from July 27 through August 12 while the National U19 Championship will start on July 25 and end on August 23 in Karachi.
