Mickey Arthur, the former Pakistan head coach, has been criticised by Umar Akmal for ruining his career, stating Arthur was an unprofessional coach.
“Mickey Arthur had personal issues with me but the team management of that time didn’t raise a voice for me and they’re even silent till today. However, Mickey Arthur later did admit that he used harsh words on me.”
Former captain Inzamam-ul Haq and former leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed were present when the right-handed batter accused the former head coach of assaulting him at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
Umar Akmal revealed in an interview that he was one of the players who refused to accept hefty payments in T20 leagues for the sake of national commitment.
In answer to a question, Akmal explained that it was Imran Khan who asked Waqar Younis to send him to the 2016 T20 World Cup at number three.
“I’m among those rare cricketers of Pakistan who have ignored heavily paid contracts of T20 leagues just for the sake of commitment with the domestic cricket.”
“It’s a wrong perception that in T20 Worldcup 2016 I asked Imran Khan to recommend team management to send me at number 3. IK himself had asked coach Waqar Younis why Umar is not batting in the top order. I was only asking IK his experience of playing against India,” he said.
It’s worth mentioning that Umar Akmal had been chastised by the team’s administration for allegedly complaining to previous captain Imran Khan about being moved up the batting order.
